Frequently Asked Questions:

  • My child is a student a Second Grade Student at St. Rose can they make their sacraments at St. Rose Church?

Yes, if the family is a registered parishioner of St. Rose Parish for at least a year.

  • What steps are expected at St. Rose for someone to make their First Reconciliation/First Communion?

    1) Baptismal Certificate

    2) Family is a registered parishioner of St. Rose of Lima Church for at least 1 year

    3) Attending Sunday Mass weekly with their family.

    4) Attendance of all Sacramental Prep Classes

  • Our family is a “Sports family”, and we do games/ tournaments on the weekends how can we make-up the Sacramental Prep Classes we can’t make?

There will be a total of six Saturday Morning classes required (3 for First Reconciliation/3

for First Communion) They will take place between January and April. The dates our

given out in the summer so there should be plenty of time to plan.

We are trying to move away from the idea that there is a magic grade or age to receive

the sacraments of First Reconciliation and First Communion. Rather we embrace the

idea that a child and family are emotionally ready in faith and commitment to receive

these sacraments. So, we ask that you prayerfully consider what is being asked of you

and your child. If you and your family conclude that this is not the right time for your

family and your child, it is ok. We understand and are ready to work with you when the

time is right. In addition, we have in the past had 50+ in our first sacraments classes. We

are committed to serving everyone. In order to do this, we need to keep the dates firm.

So, as you see under these circumstances we are not able to rearrange alternative dates

and times for the Sacramental Prep Classes.

  • Is attendance of all the Sacramental Prep Classes necessary to be eligible to make First Reconciliation and First Communion?

Yes, attendance for all is needed because the material of one class builds upon another.

The first set of classes in January and February are in preparation for First Reconciliation.

The second set in March and April are in preparation for First Communion. In planning

the dates, we have taken into account all school and church holidays etc.
